Faith
I will always be a big encourager to anyone who wants to dig in & make Bible reading a regular habit in their life. While New Year's Day isn't the only time to start this habit, it's a great opportunity to start fresh!
Reading the Bible in the year is a very doable goal, but I recently read that only 6% of people who set this goal actually achieve it. I'm sure there are so many reasons for this--life changes, schedules ebb & flow, sicknesses interrupt regular rhythms. But there's something to be said for the everyday faithfulness of opening God's Word & reading for just a few minutes a day.
So, I'm gathering some resources for you in hopes of cheering you on your way!
Let's start with some helpful websites where you can start your search.
So many good ones here, including ones that stretch up to 3-years. Easily print your preferred plan & get started!
While they have a full Bible-in-a-year plan, they also offer plans where you can focus on just the Old or New Testament for a year. This site is a wealth of resources!
Most of these plans offer a chapter-a-day approach with rest days on each Sunday. They also include a family reading guide each week to guide your discussions with your kids who are reading along.
Here are plans & resources that might end up being just what you're looking for.
Starting with a podcast, The Bible Recap is a good place to start. The podcast helps you stay on track & the book (should you choose to purchase it) has study aids. Tara-Leigh Cobble is the founder of this effort & her love for God's Word is infectious.
Dr. Muddamale has a chronological plan that he's leading this year. He's one of the theological advisors at Lysa TyrKeurst's Proverbs 31 Ministries. He's going to offer video teaching sessions to keep you encouraged & help pull together what you're reading, too!
In this article for The Gospel Coalition, Melissa Kruger shares her preferred Bible reading plan. It's a 5-day format, which might be helpful to those whose weekends are vastly different schedules from the weekdays.
Trillia Newbell wrote this study guide to reading the Bible in a year. She includes a weekly reading where she brings together key points from that week's reading. I used this last year in 2023 & found it helpful.
If you're just looking for an easy way to jumpstart your daily Bible reading habit, this is a great site that will send emails to your inbox as frequently as you'd like. They offer paid & free versions, with the paid one giving you a lot more options for personalizing the content you receive.
Bible reading is one of those things that I struggled with for years. But God grew a desire in my heart to know Him more & a thirst for His Word. I am passionate about encouraging others to have that same love for Scripture!
If you're looking for tools that can help you get started, here's a post with some resources I've found over the years.
I also wrote a post with some Bible journaling prompts that could be helpful as you read through the Bible regularly.
I pray that this is a helpful resource for you, my friends! Please share any of your favorite resources down in the comments.
